About this painting.
As an artist, I'm constantly drawn to the fleeting light and rich textures of the Scottish countryside. "Highland Hay Bales" is an original painting that comes directly from that inspiration. For me, this scene is the very essence of late summer in the Highlands—a feeling of warmth, harvest, and the calm before the seasons turn.
There's something so iconic about these giant, golden bales resting in the fields. They are like temporary sculptures in the landscape. When I set out to paint this piece, my goal was to capture their solid, round forms and the rough, sun-kissed texture of the cut hay.
To bring this original Scottish landscape painting to life, I used thick, expressive layers of paint. This impasto technique allows me to build up a tangible surface, giving the bales and the field a real, physical presence that you can almost feel. This texture in the foreground contrasts beautifully with the soft, impressionistic movement of the classic Highland sky above.
This original painting is a piece of my "Highlands & Lowlands Art Gallery" collection and is a one-of-a-kind artwork. It’s perfect for anyone looking to own a vibrant, contemporary, and textured snapshot of rural Scotland.
Thanks for viewing and reading about my artwork, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions, Kevin.

My Framed & Mounted Prints: A Complete, Gallery-Ready Finish
I believe that when you invest in a piece of my art, you should have the full gallery experience in your own home. That’s why I’m proud to offer my prints professionally framed and mounted—creating a complete work of art that’s ready to hang and enjoy the moment it arrives.
I’ve worked closely with my specialist framing partners here in Scotland to personally select the perfect combination of materials. Every choice is deliberate, designed to both protect and beautifully present my work for decades to come.
My Commitment to Quality in Every Detail:
The Museum-Quality Print: To ensure the print is as vibrant as my original painting, I use the Giclée method on a premium, heavyweight fine art paper. The archival inks and the paper's beautiful, gentle texture mean that every brushstroke and colour is captured with an accuracy that I stand behind.
The Conservation Mount: To give the artwork breathing room and a classic, elegant look, I include a conservation-grade, off-white window mount. Crucially, it’s acid-free, meaning it will never discolour or damage the print over time. I’m also proud that this matboard is FSC certified, sourced from sustainable forests.
The Handmade Solid Wood Frame: I’ve chosen a timeless frame crafted from high-quality solid wood. The simple, clean lines and elegant satin finish complement my art perfectly without ever distracting from it, ensuring it looks at home in any interior.
The Professional Finish: Every piece is handmade to order by specialist picture framers who then professionally seal the back and pre-install all the hanging hardware. My goal is for you to receive a flawlessly finished piece of art that is effortless to display.
